Cornerstone exists because of Jesus. We are a people who have been transformed by the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, God has forgiven us and adopted us into his family. Now, we have a whole new life.
Through the gospel, God redeems us, forgives us, and adopts us into his family. The good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection makes each one of us a new creation and gives us a new identity: children of God. This is why we can never think of the church as an organization or a building. The church is actually a family—God’s family, filled with redeemed sinners that are now his children.
Through the gospel, God forgives us, adopts us into his family, and makes us his disciples. This means that the church is not just any family. We are a family formed by God—and sent out with a purpose.
The church is a family that ministers to one another, cares for one another, and builds one another up. Each member of the family is a child of God who is uniquely gifted to bless the family and to be a light in our city.
Just like a vine grows best with a good trellis, our church family grows best with good programs. Our programs and ministries are tailored to support the community and mission God has given us.
We don't all have to travel to another country to share the gospel, but we are all called to care about the spread of God's Word across the world. As a church family, we have the privilege to come alongside international missionaries in the following ways.
At Cornerstone, we partner financially with missionaries in all different locations. We also contribute to missions organizations that work on the ground in various countries. The missionaries and organizations we support focus on building and strengthening local churches.
We do our best to maintain personal relationships with each missionary we support. This allows us to encourage them with more than our finances, and gives them an extended church family here in America. When they come on furlough, we enjoy serving them, caring for them, and inviting them into our homes. We love hearing their stories so we can celebrate with them in good times and support them when they struggle. Above all, we pray for them.
While we see every believer as a missionary in West LA, we also know that God will call some members of our congregation to go abroad for the sake of the gospel. We encourage that high calling by celebrating and equipping those who would leave their home to make disciples in a different culture. We want to see the majority of our supported missionaries being saved, matured, equipped, and sent out from Cornerstone.
We see every member of our church family as a missionary sent to their own unique spheres. Whether they are the spheres of career, friends, family, or physical neighbors, we are called to be disciple makers wherever God places us. Together, we are a family of missionaries sent to West LA.
“We see every member of our church family as a missionary sent to their own unique spheres.”
We also partner with individuals and organizations that care for others and make disciples in our city. Often the poor, marginalized, or hurting are not a part of our individual spheres. Partnering with specific organizations help us connect with hurting people in our city so we can extend the healing love of Christ.
