Loving the City

The God of the Bible is the God of the powerless. Throughout the Bible God demonstrates his special love for the poor and marginalized, often acting as their advocate when they have no one else.

"The God of the Bible is the God of the powerless."

Every section of the Bible details God's care for the poor. The Law of Moses outlines the responsibility of God’s people to care for one another in times of need. The writings and the prophets offer warnings for those who take advantage of the needy and oppressed, and describe God’s heart for the desperate. The ministry of Jesus and the lifestyle of the New Testament Church make it clear that we have a Christian responsibility to actively love the lowly, broken, and hurting people in our community.

At Cornerstone, we happily embrace our responsibility to engage, pursue and love the marginalized. This means we actively and intentionally reach past our normal social circles to find those without a voice in our city. To this end we often partner with organizations that specialize in discovering the marginalized in various segments of our city. This allows us to draw close and care for men, women, and children who are usually overlooked.

Prodigal Sons

Prodigal Sons Inc. (Prodigal Sons) works to reach gang neighbors through local churches in greater Los Angeles. Their mission is to bring the gospel of Christ to gang individuals through mobilizing church members to know and serve these members of their communities. By raising awareness and equipping churches for outreach and discipleship to gang neighbors, Prodigal Sons envisions a day when former gang members will become members of Christ's churches throughout every neighborhood with gang presence.

How You Can Be Involved:
Learn and Get Equipped – Grow in awareness and develop a more Christ-like heart for these neighbors through Prodigal Sons' resources on their website,  community group or friend group equipping, and reaching out to talk more about your questions and context.

Praying and Staying Updated – Sign up for the newsletter (website) and follow on Instagram and Twitter (@prodigalsonsinc) for ongoing updates about the ministry and for equipping and neighborhood service opportunities.

Financial Support – Because of the generosity of donors, Prodigal Sons is able to focus fully on facilitating gospel outreach to gang neighbors.

Imagine LA

Homelessness is an epidemic that is complex and difficult to solve. While many support programs for the homeless focus on one-time aid, Imagine LA focuses on training the homeless by pairing them with an entire community of people dedicated to help. We love adopting these families, welcoming them into our community, and helping them learn different skills necessary to ending their homelessness forever.

At Christian Legal Aid of Los Angeles (“CLA- LA”), we believe that pursuing “justice for all” is the best way to offer a hand-up, not a hand-out, to the most vulnerable in society: veterans, the elderly, homeless families, victims of domestic violence, and refugees. We provide free legal counsel to help our clients retain basic necessities like housing, employment, family relationships, veteran’s benefits, good credit and Social Security.
